The Akanas

The Akanas have a fascinating origin. They start as leather pieces tailored for various shoe sizes, using pre-made shoe lasts. This high-quality full-grain leather is obtained from a renowned tannery in Istanbul.

From there, the leather journeys through the skilled hands of artisans in the workshop. They meticulously cut, sew, stretch, and stitch the leather. These craftsmen follow a centuries-old tradition, handed down from one generation to the next, ensuring that every pair of Akanas embodies the legacy of 600 years.

Akanas are meticulously crafted using the finest materials, ensuring both comfort and longevity. Let's unveil the secrets behind their exceptional construction.

The uppers of Akanas are crafted from premium full-grain cowhide, known for its exceptional quality. This premium leather showcases the natural beauty and durability that sets Akanas apart.

For the lining, we exclusively utilize naturally tanned ultra-soft cowhide. Unlike chemical-laden processes, our tanning method ensures superior breathability, keeping your feet fresh and comfortable throughout the day.

But it doesn't stop there. The midsole of Akanas is made from water buffalo skin, treated with traditional techniques that avoid the use of chemicals. As you wear them, the buffalo skin begins to mould itself to the exact shape of your feet, providing orthopedic benefits and comfort.

The upper, insole, and midsole of Akanas are meticulously joined together using our proprietary double-needle stitching technique. This method, using beeswax cotton twine, guarantees exceptional durability, making your Akanas sturdy companions for years to come.

To further enhance their durability, Akanas are equipped with Italian outer rubber soles. These high-quality soles not only protect the midsoles but also extend the lifespan of your beloved shoes. The best part? They are replaceable. When the time comes to bid farewell to the worn-out rubber soles, simply visit a cobbler, and your Akanas will be revitalized with new soles. This cycle can be repeated, allowing your Akanas to age gracefully and acquire a stunning patina, telling the tale of a well-worn and cherished companion.

With Akanas, you can embrace timeless style, superior craftsmanship, and sustainable longevity. Experience the artistry and devotion that goes into every pair, and let your footwear narrate a story of enduring elegance.
